Meet the President.

The new President of AACP is Cynthia L. Raehl, PharmD, Professor and Chair, Clinical Research and Development for the Department of Pharmacy Practice at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy. Cindy received a BS in Pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and PharmD from the University of Kentucky, and she also completed a residency at the Albert B. Chandler Medical Center in Lexington. She came to Texas Tech in 1996 after serving as professor on the Faculty of the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy. Cindy is recognized as a national leader in pharmacy education and practice. She seeks the long-term development of the profession as a critical element in formulating today’s action steps towards change. She is willing to tackle new ideas andways of accomplishing shared goals, and personally cares about others, particularly the patients she serves. Cindy has been committed to teaching and practicebased research in pharmacy for many years. She has led the development of the PharmD program at Texas Tech and continues to teach in many courses. She has gained international and national recognition for herwork related to hospital-affiliated clinical pharmacy services. Her other practice interests are in the areas of cardiovascular pharmacotherapy and geriatrics. She is an accomplished scholar with over 75 refereed journal publications and many published abstracts and book chapters. She has served the profession for many years with active participation in the AACP, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and the American Heart Association. She was President of ASHP, and has served as an FDA Advisory Committee member. Cindy has been active in AACP throughout her career. She has served as a college delegate and on many AACP Committees. Recently, she served as Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee. Cindy has receivedmany awards and recognitions for her accomplishments, including Teacher of the Year at her institution, the Paul ParkerAward from theUniversity of Kentucky, and the National Award of Merit from Kappa Epsilon. She has received the Award for Achievement in the Professional Practice of Pharmacy in Health Systems from ASHP multiple times. She is a fellow of ASHP and ACCP. Cindy demonstrates her personal ethics and deep love of pharmacy education and practice in many tangible ways. She is highly regarded by her colleagues. She has excelled in administration as a department chair with many faculty members across 4 campuses, while at the same timemaintaining an active clinical practice and successful scholarship program. One ofCindy’s greatest positive attributes is her ability to mentor and motivate faculty members to succeed. She has an innate ability to inspire those around her to accept challenges that may have otherwise been left behind. No matter how busy she is, she always makes time for faculty members and is a phenomenal mentor. She also is family oriented and recognizes the importance of personal and American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education 2007; 71 (4) Article 76.
